Interview with Debris While surfing the net one night a
online buddy of mine passed me a link to myspace.com.
After checking it I was totally blown away by the intense
electronic and hardcore sounds that was coming from my
speakers! I had contact this group to find more about
them!
V.M.U Catches up with Debris!
VMU: Hey guys how are you?
D: Doin pretty damn good just recovering
from the weekend.
VMU: Where are you from and who is the
current line up?
D: Well we got Kiel-Vocals and
composing(Vancouver,Wa.)
Hybrid-Drums and Percussion(also the couv)
Faust-Guitars and Backing Vocs(Portland,Or.)
Soph-Bass(Portland)
Jinxx-Guitars and Backing Vocs(Portland and Iowa)
VMU: How did Debris form?
D: It has all been spearheaded by
vocalist and composer Kiel. The current members all have
their own stories as to being tricked into joining the
band. Hybrid was blackmailed, Faust soled his soul, Soph
lost alot of money gambling, and Jinxx came of his own
free will because he is a twisted little fucker.

VMU: How many releases have you put out
and who produced them?
D: Right now besides an earlier demo
featuring old members just the one album
"Anonymity" it was produced by Richard Kaplin,
his cohort Krevis, and Kiel
VMU: Could you tell us what's the music
scene like in your town?
D: Pretty damn vast actually. Lots of
different styles and band to go watch on a constant
basis. A lot of talent out here. There is alot of
competitive behavior however. But still alot of bands
will show there support to the local scene by helping
each other out and catching shows. Unfortunatly there is
some shittalking out here but that happens everywhere.
VMU: Could you tell us (in detail) what
gear you use?
D: Well Soph uses Ibanez Ergodyne and
Soundgear as well as Knuckle. Ampeg amp with custom cabs.
Faust uses a triple rec mesa boogie with Ibanez and
Schecter c-series Guitars.
Jinxx uses Ibanez guitars and an Esp baritone through a
triple rec.
I (Hybrid) play on pearl drums, zildjian cymbals, pearl
hardware, and remo skins. Also using the cheapest sticks
5bs cuz I beat the crap out of them.
Kiel uses his libido and demons to sing.
VMU: Very clean sound! Were your
releases done digital or analog? (if computer what
programs)
D: Recording was done Analog at Indigo
Ranch then things were transferred to digital using
pro-tools. Oh and alot of smurfs died in that transfer!!
VMU: Do any of you have a home studio?
D: Yeah it's next to the S&M dungeon
and mayonaisse factory.
VMU: Did you guys record live or 1 on 1?
D: It was all done one on one starting
with the sample/keyboard sequences then drums, bass,
guitar, vocs were here and there for the 3 week session.
VMU: How do you feel about the
mainstream and over seas music scene?

D: Depends on what you consider to be
main stream. Everyone has a talent and that is to be
respected. But then again it doesn't mean we have to
enjoy the regergitated bubble gum mixed with punk and
"Hi look at meeeeeee" crap that is out there.
Then again there is alot of great music being made and
more people are discovering thus making it
"mainstream". Overseas music is vast do you
mean Europe, Asia, India, Russia? I would need
clarification. The cultural tunes are pretty kick ass.
VMU: Who are your guy's musical
influences?
D: That is a pretty vast question I'll
just say that everything has gone into Debris from Bowie
and Nin inch nails to Nepalese chanting Monks and native
american flute and drum.
VMU: Any bad experiances playing live?
D: The pits can get pretty rowdy and if
you piss off band guys women then a jumping into the
crowd will ensue. We did play one show where all of us
were piss drunk and it was the most dischordent of time
crap ever. We bleed alot on stage too from beating each
other up.
VMU: Any tours in the works or deals?
D: Mostly small week long ventures here
and there. Still trying to get our stuff in the right
hands. It is a struggle making it but we are working our
asses off and will continue to do so untill the very end.
Look for us in a town or pornshop near YOU!!!
VMU: What do you guys express in your
lyrics?
D: Usual human emotion. Displeasure at
being treated in certain ways, love, hate, trancendance
and evolution, even a smattering of political agenda.
Just close our eyes and feel the music.
VMU: How do you feel about bands being
political?
D: Whatever drives people to their
emotions is an amazing outlet. People should be able to
express whatever moves them.
VMU: Thanks very much for your time!!
Any last words?
D: Thanks for listening and all your
support. Watch for the new album coming soon!!!!!
